You need to understand your policy contract conditions relating to theft, especially in these - no-power - conditions.

Where your property is situated will impact your risk security requirements. Some areas will require low security and some, high-security requirements.

You need to understand the conditions in your policy contract.
If you can not meet your security requirements as per your contract, you must inform your insurance provider and adjust your underwriting, premium, or excess.

You have a contractual duty of care to minimize loss and advise your insurance company if you can not adjust to implement such a duty of care. The insurance company will expect you to increase extra security or have backup battery packs for your required security systems.

You will note in your policy contract that it will stipulate, the alarm system is in good working order for your theft cover to be active and to have a valid claim.

You are responsible for the security system to be always on. You need to test it on a regular basis to make sure all is in working order.
