Shade Netting - Fire risk
By: Ilse de Klerk

The fire risk for shade netting - Own claims experience
We all have or use some shade netting around the house or workplace. With all structures, there is continual maintenance needed and one should not exclude the lifespan of your shade netting.
We dealt with a fire claim and the culprit, in the end, was the shade nets.
Shade nets only last for a few years, meaning the protective barrier on the plastic erodes over time, and then all it needs is a flicker of smoldering grass to ignite the fire on the netting, and then the destruction of the items around or beneath it.
Please do keep track of the age of your netting and replace it when needed.
